GTAC’s goal is to train “end users” to apply spatial technologies to their work and everyday lives. These technologies have changed the way we view and manage our neighborhoods, towns, cities, businesses, and world. GIS is the future of city planning and management for:
In 1999, the Alabama Department of Economics and Community Affairs (ADECA) funded the development of four curricula to begin the applications training for GTAC:
GTAC, with its partners, develop detailed teaching curricula with extensive resource lists, training activities, content, and instructor lists. Other topics include “Infrastructure Management and Urban Planning” and “Preserving the Past – Growth Management and Historic Preservation”, “Cultural Resource Management” and “Soils and Water Conservation”. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center opened in 1970 as a not-for-profit state agency of the State of Alabama.
